Role: House Manager/Butler

Salary: £40,000 – £60,000 gross per annum (DOE)

We are looking for a House Manager/Butler for a full-time role working for a family in Gibraltar.

The family consists of two Principals and their school-aged children. They require a hands-on, proactive and experienced individual, to ensure the smooth running of the household and maintenance of the property to a high standard. The family currently employ a Housekeeper/Cook and a Handyman, the House Manager will need to oversee this small team and be hands on in approach and happy to muck in and provide support in a range of areas where required.

You would be contracted to work full-time hours, Monday – Friday with flexibility to work every other Saturday. The days/hours of work will vary dependent on the schedule of the family and whether they are in residence or travelling. You will be based from the family’s Gibraltar residence working on a live-out basis. A separate house on the island is provided to the candidate.

There will be busier periods followed by down time, the family are very fair and will compensate you with time off in lieu for additional hours worked.

This role requires an individual who is service-orientated, a team player, and highly responsive to the needs and requirements of both the Principals and the other household staff.

To be considered for this position you must have 5+ years of experience working as a House Manager/Butler for a UHNW/HNW employer, ideally a family.

The duties for the role will include;

  • Ensuring the lives of the family run smoothly
  • Working as a team with other household staff
  • Organising the staff rotas on a weekly basis
  • Liaising with contractors
  • Scheduling home maintenance and repair work
  • Running errands and personal shopping
  • Assisting the permanent staff in their areas when necessary; housekeeping and maintenance
  • Assisting with travel plans and preparation
  • Valet duties
  • Receiving guests to the property
  • Serve the Principals when in residence
  • Managing personal correspondence
  • General day to day administration
  • Answering household phone and filtering calls
  • Managing household accounts/budgets and bill payments
  • Producing payment invoices and completion follow ups
  • Assisting with a variety of special projects as directed
  • Organising events within the household
  • Purchasing household items
  • Managing household inventories (linen, china, silverware and glassware)
  • Preparing light meals
  • Occasional driving for the family
  • Driving the children to activities
  • Maintaining strict client confidentiality at all times due to the nature of work

To be considered for this role you must;

  • Have 5+ years of previous experience as a House Manager/Butler working within a private household
  • Be eligible to work in Gibraltar
  • Have a valid passport
  • Possess (/be willing to get) an up-to-date DBS check
  • Have excellent contactable references
  • Have a driving license
